Captain Denys Cooke (1910)

Entered College in Michaelmas Term, 1910. Classical Scholar. President of the Essay Club, 1913. A member of the University Chess Team, 1913. A member of the University Contingent of the Officers’ Training Corps. 3rd Class. Mods., 1912; 3rd Lit. Hum., 1914; B.A. 1915. Commenced service on 22 March 1914. Lieutenant of the 3rd Battalion, Black Watch; attached to the 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, 1915; Captain, 1915; attached to the Officer Cadet Battalion, 1916; specially employed, 1917. Served in France and Belgium, 1914-15; 1916-18. Killed in action at Givenchy, 18 April 1918. “One of the most lovable of men” (‘Oxford Magazine’).
