The Reverend William Herbert Freestone, Chaplain to the Forces (1901)

14 May 1882 – 14 December 1916

Entered College in Michaelmas Term, 1901. A member of the 1st VIII in Eights Week, 1903 – 1904. 3rd in Natural Science (Zoology) and B.A., 1905; M.A., 1909. Took Holy Orders, (d. 1907; p. 1908). Curate at St. Faith, Lincoln, 1907 – 1913; House of Resurrection, Mirfield, 1913 – 1915. Commenced service on the 6th June 1916. Chaplain to the Forces (4th Class), 1916. Served in Mesopotamia. Author of The Sacrament Reserved (published post-posthumously in 1917). Killed in action on the 14 December 1916.
