Lieutenant Colonel Robert Edward Frederic Shaw, M.C. (1910)

Entered College in Michaelmas Term, 1910. A member of the 1st Association Football XI, 1911 – 1914; a member of the Lawn Tennis VI (Captain). Squire Scholar, 1911. 2nd Class. Mods., 1912; 2nd Theol. and B.A., 1914. A member of the University Contingent of the Officers’ Training Corps.

Commenced service on 14 October 1914, Second Lieutenant, 13th (County of London) (Princess Louise’s, Kensington Battalion), London Regiment, 1914; Lieutenant, 1915; Captain and Adjt., 1916; Lieutenant-Colonel, 1917. Served in France. Awarded an M.C., 1918. Mentioned in Despatches. Killed in action by a sniper 23 August 1918. A brilliant young colonel (‘Oxford Magazine’).
