Commenced service (following acceptance into College but prior to matriculation) on the 3rd February 1915. Second Lieutenant of the 6th Worcestershire Regiment. Served in France in 1915 and 1916. Awarded the M.C., 28 July 1916:

For conspicuous gallantry during an attack on an enemy crater. He led his men to within twenty yards of the crater. Here the attack was held up by intense fire. But with half a dozen men he made good further ground and continued to bomb effectively

Killed in action near Les Boeufs on October 31 1916.
